Turbulences is an acoustic and visual drift through the unpredictable. Inspired by physical water currents and personal challenges, music and video art enter into dialogue, creating an interplay between compositional freedom and structural resistance.
“In two moments of my life, when I was deeply struggling with the challenges of reality, two different friends gave me the same advice: ‘Be water!’ Water is by nature turbulent, unless it becomes laminar under very special conditions. This suggests that in order to know how to be water, one must master the ‘mechanism’ of turbulence. In fact, turbulence is chaotic and unpredictable. Yet it is far removed from human disorder! In the infinite swirls that arise at different amplitudes, there is a certain harmony, a quality that makes it natural and flowing!
How can one, in the most existential sense, dance with the turbulences of life? Rumi says: ‘We are thrown into this stormy sea of life, and those are saved who know how to swim.’ But isn’t swimming itself a kind of dance with the shifting movements of water? There is a certain fish whose body is designed in such a way that, merely by reacting to the vortices, it swims against the current – the body swims even when the fish is dead. And not with the current, but against it!
This composition is part of a long series of observations on turbulent currents. The work has a structure that is not predictable, and each performance will be unique in form and duration, depending on the micro-decisions the performer must make at every point in the score. It is to be hoped that through an intense immersion in this process – whether as performer or listener – the molecules of imagination will form drops, unite, and create a stream that joins the collective currents of the earth – all turbulent, all chaotic, dancing in the heat of darkness toward an undefined point.”
